TATAK: Printmaking Workshop

with Marz Aglipay

July 23, 2025

Last July 23, the morning leg of TATAK, a mini block printing workshop led by printmaker and independent curator Marz Aglipay, was held at Haboean Weaving Studio and Cafรฉ. Organized with KANTINA Roxas, the workshop brought together artists, weavers, and friends of the studio for a hands-on session focused on printmaking using simple rubber block techniques. Marz Aglipay was the resident artist of ISTARAN, for the whole month of July 2025. This is the residency program of KANTINA, a space for co-learning and co-creation in Roxas City, Capiz.

Participants began by carving sample blocks from rubber bases provided, practicing precision and mark-making. From there, they moved on to developing their own final prints. Marz guided everyone through the process, from carving and inking to stamping and signing of their finished work. Some of the weavers brought out some of the motifs they commonly work with and experimented by printing on piรฑa-seda, allowing familiar patterns to re-emerge through new techniques.

The workshop continued in the afternoon at RB Print Gallery and is part of a series of early programming leading up to the art biennale held in Aklan, VIVA ExCon 2025.
